Part 4 · Monsters & Creatures

Elnuks

“Avarosans are like Elnuks – lifeless-eyed grass-eaters, easily felled even by a scarless warrior. That’s why they only survive in herds.” – Vrynna, Mother of ScarsElnuks are a common type of livestock in Freljord, used both as a food and cold-weather hide source and as mounts. Among the tribes, the Avarosans are the ones most associated with elnuks, whether due to their less nomadic nature compared to the other tribes, which allowed them to develop ways to raise these beasts with relative ease, or because other tribes compare them to elnuks in a derogatory way.

Saving Throws: Constitution +3

Thick Fur. The Elnuk has advantage on saving throws to resist conditions caused by extreme cold.

Disposable. The Elnuk takes double damage from effects that require saving throws, except Constitution. Additionally, even if it succeeds on a saving throw against an effect or spell that isn't Constitution-based, the Elnuk takes full damage instead of only half.

Tusks. Melee Natural Weapon Attack, +2 to hit, 5 ft. reach, one target. On a hit, deals 4 (1d8) Piercing damage.

A creature with the Collector: Biologist Craft can Dissect the following parts of the Elnuk:

Fur: An Elnuk's fur is thick and works as a good thermal insulator. It can be used as material to craft a set of Cold-Weather Travel Clothes, a Blanket, a pair of Snow Boots, Padded armor, or a Hide Jerkin. The fur of a single Elnuk is enough to craft one of these items for a single Medium or smaller creature.

Tusks: An Elnuk's tusks are large and resilient, though slightly flexible. They can be used as material to craft a piercing weapon or a Shortbow.

Runic Pulse: Jade Pulse (1d4 Bludgeoning and Cold)

Saving Throws: Constitution +3.

Collective. The Elnuk Herd can enter and leave the space of a creature that is the same size as it or smaller; the space inside the Herd is considered difficult terrain, and the Herd has advantage on attack rolls against creatures inside it.

Split. The Elnuk Herd can split into two Elnuk Herds of 1 size category smaller using a bonus action, losing half its maximum and current hit points in the process, and Tusks attacks have their damage die reduced by one category. An Elnuk Herd can merge with another of the same size using a bonus action, adding their maximum hit points together and increasing their damage dice by one category. An Elnuk Herd can't have a size smaller than Huge. A Gargantuan-sized Herd splits into 1d4 Elnuks.

Thick Fur. The Elnuk Herd has advantage on saving throws to resist conditions caused by extreme cold.

Tusks. Melee Natural Weapon Attack, +2 to hit, 5 ft. reach, one target. On a hit, deals 6 (1d12) Piercing damage.

The Elnuk Herd has 2 charges of epic actions, and can spend one of these charges to act. Only one action can be used at a time, at the end of another creature's turn. At the start of the Elnuk Herd's turn, the number of charges returns to 2.

The Elnuk Herd can take an action and restore its reaction (if spent).

The Elnuk Herd can spend all or the rest of its movement.

The Elnuk Herd can repeat a Saving Throw against an effect affecting it.

Cost. When the Elnuk Herd repeats its saving throw this way, it loses 1 hit point.

Push: The Elnuk Herd makes a melee attack against the target's AC. If successful, it can choose between:

Knocking the target down, leaving it with the Prone condition.

Pushing the target 10 feet away from the Elnuk Herd.

A creature with the Collector: Biologist Craft can Dissect the following parts of each Elnuk:

Fur: An Elnuk's fur is thick and works as a good thermal insulator. It can be used as material to craft a set of Cold-Weather Travel Clothes, a Blanket, a pair of Snow Boots, Padded armor, or a Hide Jerkin. The fur of a single Elnuk is enough to craft one of these items for a single Medium or smaller creature.
