Part 4 · Monsters & Creatures
Drakalope
“SKARL!! WHERE ARE YOU, GIRL?”
- a high-ranking Noxian soldier
It was on the plains between Noxus and Demacia that I first encountered a living specimen of this peculiar creature.
Drakalopes are reptilian-looking creatures at first glance, but I believe they’re the product of some past magical experiment, since they share characteristics of many different species not normally all found in a single creature.
While searching for the creature, I was told they were shy and liked to run free, but loved eating meat in an advanced state of decomposition, apparently a delicacy for them.
So, upon learning of a possible nest of these creatures, I set up an observation post. It was disappointing to learn that beef isn’t among their favorites, but thanks to a rotting hindquarter that attracted a few vultures, I discovered that Drakalopes liked the meat of these scavenger birds even more.
A pair of these creatures attacked the birds so quickly that I barely had time to observe. A swift, quick, and precise lunge, but at the slightest noise, they ran off and vanished.
Only when I hunted some vultures and left them for nearly three days under a scorching sun did they appear, feed, and seem to even communicate in some rudimentary language.
Drakalopes stand a little over five feet tall, walk bipedally, and have a bulky, fleshy tail, though I don’t believe anyone has ever eaten one.
The creatures’ preference for decomposing meat seems to directly affect their flatulence. I leave here my recommendation that, even if someone manages to pierce their scales (which I believe is virtually impossible), they shouldn’t attempt to use it for food; I believe it could be that brave soul’s last meal.
Rewards
Some body parts of a Drakalope can be obtained after it’s dissected and used for various purposes.
Item Crafting
Materials obtained from a Drakalope’s body have enhanced physical properties, derived from its draconic nature. Each material from a Drakalope grants a specific effect when used to craft items, in exchange for an increase in the difficulty of crafting them:
- The Claws of a Drakalope can be used by a creature with the Weaponsmith Craft to create weapons.
- When using these materials to craft weapons, the crafting DC increases by 3 and the resulting weapon gains a +1 bonus to attack and damage.
- The Scales of a Drakalope can be used by an Armorer to create Scale Mail.
- When using this material to craft armor, the crafting DC increases by 3 and the resulting armor gains a +1 bonus to AC and grants resistance to Simple Physical damage.
